Barre creates atmospheric, moody and painterly landscape photographs, documenting Tornado Alley in the American Midwest. These uncanny images explore places that time has left behind, in glorious black and white and an appealing palette of muted, soft colours, the photographs are eerily between the bleak and the nostalgic.
"The images in this series were captured in the American midwest, through tornado alley and in farming communities that time has truly forgotten. The void of human presence in these towns illustrates its rise and fall through the years. There is a feeling of abandonment as the buildings and monuments remain standing and unaltered since their creation. Perhaps they stand as a reminder of what once was, or perhaps as a glimpse of hope that things may return to what they once were.
My nostalgic photographs are taken throughout the American Midwest on the older route highways of the days of Kerouac and the 'open road'. Time has since changed the scenery and subsequently the atmosphere of these places, its growth and prosperity turning to peaceful tranquility in its abandonment.”
