When I paint I am looking for ways to represent my encounters with the beauty and power of the natural landscape. My intention is to find visual equivalents for the sensual, aural, and other, primarily non-visual experiential qualities encountered, choosing recycled and eco-friendly materials to do so.

A couple of years ago, environmental awareness was very much in vogue, with exhibitions such as the Barbican's Radical Nature and the Royal Academy's Earth – Art of a Changing World. Now the subject has fallen out of fashion, but I believe that it is of the utmost importance to keep it alive. I also feel that artists have an obligation to work responsibly and sustainably so that we can exploit the discipline as a vehicle for raising awareness and influencing a wider audience.

Figures:  I am currently involved in staging a series of seminars based on drawing.  The first is a discussion of the question "Is drawing relevant today?"  I believe that it has always been and should remain the fundamental basis of art.  I use drawing to retain discilpine in draftsmanship.  Life drawing is the perfect means of keeping  focussed and observant, yet at the end of this clinical process,  I am often left with a sensitive portrait of the human body.
