With work in many international private collections Jonathan Stead works with a variety of cameras; often handmade or adapted for his needs, he tries to capture images that portray a subject in its most elemental form. The cameras he produces allow him to work intuitively which allows him the freedom to capture the very essence of a subject without relying on, or being limited by, technology.
"My cameras are bespoke pinhole, or adapted lens-cameras. These cameras are very basic and reminiscent of the technology used by the initial pioneers of photography well over 100 years ago, which I feel connects me with the fundamental process of photography. All images are captured on film without any digital manipulation."
All the images are printed to archival standards using 100% cotton rag paper with pigment inks resulting in an archival image. Prints are in limited editions of no more than 12 and are signed and numbered on the back.
