“I paint directly from life, judging and measuring the subject or object by eye. The indirectly-made paintings are built up gradually; first drawn and/or painted studies are made and then transferred onto and developed on the canvas or panel. My goal is to achieve a convincing sense of visual reality. I work mostly with simple compositions set up in my studio; endeavouring to make engaging paintings of consistently high aesthetic and constructional qualities.
For me, painting goes well beyond making pictures, if my pictures are enjoyed or found inspiring, then that will hopefully fuel fascination and enjoyment in others, for really looking and seeing."
