Jamie Patterson
Patterson creates enchanting works and possesses an enchanter’s eye. These intimately nocturnal works allow adults to revisit a distance feeling first experienced when savouring the illustrations in children’s books – imagery to return to and relish, forever withholding and containing further detail. The works are highly patterned and finely drawn – high class draughtsmanship.
“Nature is at the core of my art, whether it be an observed subject or a composition coined from my imagination. I feel silhouetting allows me to interpret natures many guises in a simple and expressive way.
I am interested in positive and negative space and see this as an integral part of design. I enjoy the economy of line and form that good silhouetting can afford and particularly admire the work of Jan Pienkowski, Aubrey Beardsley and Lotte Reineger.”
