Georgina Flood’s work, whether figurative or exploring patterning, is always conceptually driven and raises intriguing questions for the viewer. Her serious engagement with both her art practice and art history can be seen in the coherent series within her body of work, conceptual conundrums and concerns resolved in material form. The series where each piece is titled with a letter, emerges particularly well when viewed in the context of her beautiful and more familiar works which explicitly refer to earlier precedents in art history. The series occupies a wonderfully indistinct borderland between emerging stains, fragmented mug shots, and ink blots used in psychological testing. We think it is kind of wonderful that the viewer/patient persists in seeing human faces.?
“I am currently completing an MFA at the Slade School of Fine Art, London. My work explores the passage of time through the language of art history. The images dissolve and drip exploring decadence, destruction and decay.
I am investigating the space between a static painting and moving history. Symbols of power and empire often repeat as a motif through the body of work.”
