Original mixed media drawing in ink, acrylic, graphite, conte, charcoal and watercolour pencil on paper.

"The brown ink is an antique ink called 'Inchiostro nerissimo a base tannic, Gnocchi' and was used for official documents by solicitors. I love using this ink because it is quite transparent, but once it touches paper, there is no going back. It cannot be washed off in any way so it pushes me in making decisive moves. I find that modern materials and techniques tend to give too may opportunities of re-touching."

Sonja de Graaf’s paintings swell with bella figura; aesthetic forms and dancing gestures celebrate youth, beauty and energy. Photographic sources become animated by paint and flavoursome textures are re-rendered with broad sweeps of colour.

De Graaf’s zest for life is evident in her painting. This Dutch artist honed her skills at LABA Academy of Fine Arts, Florence, and then was assistant to the renowned installation artist, Vittorio Corsini.
