Introduce children to collecting
New artist: Sarah Ramos
Sometimes I'm asked which emerging artists I'd recommend as an introduction for children into collecting art. I think new artist Sarah Ramos would be a wonderful place to start:
These natural scenes are ones of give and take: the sensitive, gestural quality of the brushwork transmits that the process itself is to be enjoyed. This process involves Sarah Ramos mixing her own paints from natural oils and pigments, resulting in a plush organic palette which receptively moulds form. The work ‘Fields’ is painted on linen, a very fine type of canvas offering a durable and smooth surface and Ramos primes its suppleness to capture the modulations of the air. There’s much delight in these small paintings, which hints at Ramos’ background as an illustrator of children’s books. In the expressive brushwork sensitivity of mark-making is obviously primary, yet the scenes remain clearly figurative - a woman swimming, wind in the leaves - offering ways in for younger viewers to encounter visual art. And as with favourite children’s books and films, of course these paintings appeal to all ages in their refreshing innocence.
