News: Venice Biennale & record breaking sales
Recipient of many accolades including 1st prize winner at Open up North, the Marmite Painting Prize and the Towry Prize, Iain Andrews is widely sought after and highly collectable. Andrews' career continues to blossom - exhibiting at this year’s Venice Biennale: ‘Personal Structures’, Paper Pavillion, Palazzo Mora, Venice Biennale, Venice. The show runs from May 11 - 24 November 2019.
We have a number of beautiful pen and ink studies available by Iain with prices starting at. Andrews' work often starts with an image from art history – a painting by an Old Master or particular Folk Tale, used as a starting point from which to playfully but reverently deviate, with an interest in how stories are retold and re-imagined.
In other news, following the record breaking sale of Monet’s Haystacks painting earlier in the week - the painting sold for $110 million, (the same piece previous sold at Christie’s New York in 1986 for for $2.53 million), the sale triggered a wave of discussions about the art world as a whole as well as the impact of the internet on the market - I was interviewed by BBC World service - (World business report) you can listen here, forward to 21.44 minutes.
With Monet's Haystacks being one of the most recognisable images in art history, we look to how other artworks and movements in modern art have served as inspiration to our artists, with a selection of works below.
As always, let me know if I can help in anyway.
