Strange Almost Sentient Things Coming to Life
I Have Swallowed Moss and Moon
Sian Egan
Sian Egan paints from a wooden cabin in her country garden. An enchanting setting from which to observe the extraordinary colours of nature as the seasons change and the strange, almost sentient plants that bloom around her. We have beautiful new work by Sian, just arrived.
And wonderful to have new work by Errol Theunissen, an artist whose studio is far from the country garden, based in the city in Middlesbrough though also painting the freedom and happiness of being in nature, his people’s aliveness so evident, freedom, movement and play in the natural landscape.
Their visual languages are wonderfully different, though I find a lovely connection between these two artists’ work: Sian’s paintings seem to make nature itself come alive on the canvas, while Errol shows us what it feels like to come alive in nature.
