The power of photography: Richard Brocken

I’ve long admired the work of Richard Brocken and recently acquired Rain |Rān| and collected it from the framers yesterday. The piece is beautiful, it’s as though she is actually in the room. Despite the prominence of black in the image, the piece brings light and life into the space. The raindrops on the glass and the way they seem to echo the contours of her face remind me of an Old Master, a Vermeer perhaps – it’s breathtaking actually, the images on the website don’t do her justice. She is particularly interesting to view now framed - behind glass, echoing the subject itself - of a girl seen through a car window. Rain art_13088 art_14479
