Imi Williams's paintings evoke Georgia O'Keeffe's organic abstractions – cascade and recess equalising into stillness and movement. Veils of colour are laid over each other with precision and instinct: concealing and revealing, maintaining translucency, achieving a luminous depth.
My practice is built on colour interplay and layering. I work with thin veils of paint, maintaining translucency while building depth. The gestures are slow and considered, but also intuitive – concealing and revealing, the surface always in a state of becoming.
